Founder Biography
Nyein Su's artistic journey began after completing her computer science degree at the University of Computer Studies, Yangon. In 2003, she shifted her focus to art, specializing in watercolor, and soon began participating in various exhibitions. In 2010, she was awarded a scholarship to study at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), where she specialized in Western painting and portraiture. During her time at NAFA, she won first place in the ACR Art Competition and in 2013, she contributed to the NUSS Paint A Portrait Commission Project while completing her arts diploma. In June 2014, she founded the Art Village Gallery and Studio.
Nyein Su is known for translating her experience and mastery of watercolor into oil painting. She is recognized for her thought-provoking figurative series that explore themes of identity, culture, and personal narrative.
Her artistic journey began with realism, focusing on minimalistic details, and gradually evolved into abstract expressionism. This shift reflects her exploration of identity, growth, and freedom. Through vibrant colors and layered textures, she aims to create depth and emotion, inviting viewers into dynamic spaces where reality and perception merge. Each piece offers a glimpse into a world where beauty and fragility coexist, echoing the push for expansion within life's constraints.
